ABOUT YUGOSLAVIA
Dear Comrades,
The criminal aggression of the NATO imperialists against Yugoslavia keeps
intensifying. Now the self-proclaimed "international community" of the
imperialist gangsters is also bombing blocks of flats, bridges, electric
power plants, water reservoirs, gas refineries, and even tobacco factories.
NATO is celebrating its 50th anniversary by copying the cynicism, the
barbarity and the desinformation of its hitlerite predecessor. The
imperialist New Order is revealing its murderous face in front of the whole
world. Now, more than ever, the communists must be in the first line in
order to coordinate and correctly orientate the peoples' resistance.
Against imperialism, chauvinism, and reactionary war!
In the whole world, the progressive people are already storming the
embassies of the imperialist aggressors. In Oceania, Southeastern Asia, the
Middle East, Europe, the Balkans, the ancient Soviet bloc, the Americas,
everyday, thousands and thousands of demonstrators are condemning the NATO
attack.
In our country, the progressive people are reacting in a combative way,
since the first day of the aggression, against the imperialist machinations
and the submissive policy of the Greek government. Big anti-imperialist
demonstrations are shaking the country. In Athens, 25.000 people marched
last week against the British and the US embassy, and clashed with the
special repressive forces, in the first big protest action. The
demonstrators invaded the building of the British embassy and later
attacked the US embassy with stones and paint bombs. Since then, similar
demonstrations are taking place every day in Athens and in many other
cities, from Macedonia in the north to Creta in the south. The wave of
protest becomes increasingly wide and deep. Anti-imperialist demonstrators
attacked the US Consulate in Thessaloniki, throwing stones and paint bombs.
The convoys of NATO armored vehicles which are crossing the streets have
been painted with anti-imperialist slogans, such as "Yankees go home!" and
"US, EU, murderers of the peoples". In the port of Piraeus, the
demonstrators clashed with the police during their attempt to approach four
NATO warships. In the NATO bases of Tirnavo and Souda, militant
demonstrators clashed with the special forces, while attempting to invade
the bases.
We send to you a communiqué of our organization that circulated broadly in
Greece the first days of the aggression:

COMMUNIQUE (25.3.1999)
Down with the criminal New Order of the imperialists!
Solidarity with the people of Yugoslavia! Greece, out of NATO! The
military bases, out of our country!
The imperialist Directorate of the New Order decided to "celebrate" the
50th anniversary of NATO with an upgrading of its role, both by expanding
its field of action and by turning against an independent country.
Just as, in 6 April 1941, the flying hitlerite hordes spread the death and
leveled Belgrade and other Yugoslav cities to the ground, again now, 58
years later, the new hitlerites (the US and the rest of imperialists) are
leveling Yugoslavia with their smart weapons. They are trying to oblige a
people yield to force, and at the same time, they are attempting to
terrorize all those who may resist their plans.
The Balkans plunge deeper in the war: a war wanted, planed and now directly
realized by the main imperialist powers, which are exploiting national and
other differences originating already in the first balkanization, again
planed by the then "great powers". The war in the Balkans (which was since
1991 a local internationalized war conducted by "representatives" of the
imperialists) enters a new phase. The imperialists are not fighting anymore
through their representatives (i.e. local armies armed, financed and
supported by the various imperialist centers), but by directly deploying
their own military forces in the region. The developments are such that it
is probable to live in the near future a regional internationalized war,
directly implicating most of the Balkan countries and of the imperialist
forces.
No matter if the imperialists are actually
privileging the murderous air strikes, they well
know that the control of the region is not possible
without the presence of military forces on the
soil. That's why they took care to concentrate tens
of thousands of soldiers which are marked out to
engage into action when they will feel relatively
safe, when the airforce and the missiles will raze
the field to the ground. Already tens of thousands
of British, French, German and Dutch troops are
camping in Skopje, waitinga
However, the imperialists will always live with the fear of the people's
resistance, of the just people's war against the imperialist invaders.
The excuses of the imperialist aggression, such as the defense of the
minorities, are ridiculous. The conspiracy against the Kurdish nation is
too fresh, as fresh and continuous is the support of the fascist Turkey,
the local gendarme of the imperialists and prison of the peoples, by all
the imperialist powers. Not to mention the characteristic indifference for
Cyprus and the continued cover-up of the occupation of its north by the
Turkish army. In addition, the dismemberment of Yugoslavia itself took
place thanks to the intense implication of the imperialists.
The truth is quite different: The rivalry and competition of the
imperialists about the domination in the immense areas of the East and the
route of the oil, lead to the explosion of regions, the exploitation of
territorial, national, religious differences, the poisoning of the
relations among countries and peoples. Such situation permits to the
imperialists the promotion of their plans. The Balkans have the "privilege"
to be a strategic region-passage, wanted by the rivaling imperialist
powers. The western imperialists compete in their attempt for domination
(the Germans in the north and the US in the south of the Balkans), while at
the same time they are united in the common goal of weakening and
destroying Serbia, as well as of completely deactivating the Russian
influence in the region.
Of course, the US imperialists are trying to show
that they are not disposed to let their domination
be disputed in this neuralgic region. While the
"15" were discussing in Berlin for the "Agenda
2000", which includes the enlargement of the EU to
the East, the US were starting the bombardment of
Yugoslavia, letting the Europeans watching and
followinga
The NATO imperialists escalate their aggressivity, completely ignoring the
international relations and rules. The United Nations and the Security
Council are rather decorative institutions. The protests of Russia, China
and Namibia where not capable to stop the imperialist aggression. All these
show that other rules and arrangements, suitable to the imperialist
Directorate will condition the international life. This message did not
pleased the Russian and Chinese responsibles. Especially the Russian are
feeling that they are systematically excluded from regions and fields that
they traditionally owned. The planned further downgrading of Russia runs
contrary to the interests of its ruling class, which attempts to be
reconstructed, to break the umbilical cord with the West, especially as far
as the loans and financing are concerned. Thus, the Russian ruling class is
obliged to react somehow. This is clear; but it is another question until
which point it can and wants to react. The peoples of the Balkans cannot
expect anything positive from imperialist Russia since, what happened all
these years in the region, happened with its tolerance - and again now,
Russia is not interested for the peoples, but for its vital interests.
The Greek government and big bourgeoisie, while aligning with the US-NATO
plans and satisfying all their demands, tries to play the game of the
"neutral observer" and supporter of a "peaceful solution". All this is a
great hypocrisy and a blatant lie. All the NATO military bases in our
country are directly implicated in the operations. Litochoro and
Thessaloniki are used as a passage for the NATO troops. The whole North
Greece has been transformed into a bridgehead of the NATO troops. Greece
voted the EU decisions considering Miloshevitsch as the sole responsible
and supporting the imperialist aggression. The Greek crews of the AWACS are
participating in the military operations and the destroyer "Kimon" is
patrolling in the Adriatic Sea. All these prove the implication and
participation of Greece in the aggression. The servility and the
self-delusion of the Greek government and big bourgeoisie are such that
lead the country deeper in the Balkan war and closer in the arms of the
imperialist alliance, resulting to the accumulation of new trials for our
people. This hypocritical policy is not at all peace-loving, does not
remove Greece away from the seats of war; on the contrary, this policy ties
Greece tighter on the imperialist chariot. The claim of Clinton that the
undertaking of action in Yugoslavia pushes away the possibilities of
military implication and confrontation with the neighboring countries
(Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria), and also a Greek-Turkish military quarrel,
shows the real intentions of the USA. This claim is, simultaneously, an
indirect warning addressed to everybody, and demanding the alignment with
the USA interests.
In those conditions, we must all think hard over what is necessary to be
done, how we must act and in which direction, where we must base our
action. In our opinion, it is necessary to forge the militant
anti-imperialist unity of all our people, because we will need it in front
of the future reserved to us by the imperialists. The national and
anti-imperialist awakening and the solidarity in deed with all the
suffering peoples are indispensable elements, which must be in the first
line in each and every protest and demonstration. Then, our mobilization
is more than necessary, here and now, against the imperialist New Order,
against the implication of our country, in a spirit of friendship and
cooperation with all the peoples, attacked by imperialism and its local
lackeys. The anti-war struggle pass through the repulse of the
imperialists' plans, the exposure of their machinations, the reverse of all
their "arguments"; the anti-war struggle pass through the decisive
mobilization of the people's forces. We consider that this path, the path
of resistance, is the only possible to follow in order to stop the genocide
promoted by the imperialist gangsters in this corner of Europe. The heroic
traditions of the Balkan peoples, the uprisings against the ottoman yoke
and the resistance against the nazi-fascists and their local collaborators,
will inspire the struggle. The flag of national social liberation will rise
again, and better days will come for the peoples. No matter the
difficulties and barriers we are facing, this perspective can and will warm
the hearts of the people. This perspective can and will steel the peoples,
elevating them to protagonists. The peoples are bearing mountains on their
shoulders; it is the peoples who are making the history; it is the human
and not the guns that are the decisive factor: those truths will shine
again!
The demands that we are promoting in our mobilizations are:
Close down the foreign military bases! Withdraw from NATO!
No facilities for the imperialists!
Stop any participation of Greece in the military operations!
No Greek soldiers outside our borders! Down with the government of
treason, hunger, war and submission!
Solidarity to the people of Yugoslavia! Advance the cooperation of all the
peoples against the common enemies, and against chauvinism! Fight for the
independence of Greece, for a Greece out of all imperialist coalitions and
integrations!
