TK8111 Topics in Systems and Control Theory

TK8111 is a self-study course for PhD students with an individual syllable developed by the student's main supervisor. A «pass»/«not pass» grade is given based on a written report (50%) and oral examination (50%) arranged by the student's main supervisor in accordance with NTNU's regulations for oral exams. The course accounts for 7.5 credits. The detailed procedure for the course is as follows:

  • The student's main supervisor prepares a suitable syllabus using the template for Individual study syllabus found here.
  • The syllabus must include a course description and list of literature.
  • The proposed syllabus is sent to the course responsible Professor Ole Morten Aamo (aamo@ntnu.no) for tentative approval (formal approval by faculty).
  • The tentatively approved syllabus is submitted with the PhD application form for entering the PhD program. Alternatively, it may be used in the event of a change of an approved PhD plan.
  • The course is conducted by the candidate in cooperation with her supervisor(s).
  • The main supervisor recruits an independent examiner and notifies Lill Hege Pedersen in the department office (lill.hege.pedersen@ntnu.no) of name of candidate, name of responsible examiner (usually main supervisor) and name of independent examiner. With this information, Lill Hege prepares Inspera by defining a commision.
  • The exam is organized by the main supervisor accompanied by the independent examiner, i.e. according to NTNU’s regulations for oral exams. Following the exam, the examiners enter the grade of «pass» or «not pass» into Inspera.
