A Norwegian man is fasting for Tamil asylum seekers

Dear friends,

This is to inform that Mr. Bernt Hauge, a Counselor
working for an NGO called "Raadgivningsgruppa" in
Trondheim has been on hunger strike since January 18th.
He was among other NGOs who broke a deal with the
Norwegian government when 14 Tamil asylum seekers went
on hunger strike for 14 days in January 1997.

Mr. Hauge demands that the Norwegian government should
approach the Tamil asylum seekers' cases with a positive
attitude and should reconsider their cases again. He is
determined to fast until he receives a positive answer
from the government.

There are some 600 Tamil asylum seekers to be sent back
to Sri Lanka. It is widely believed that the Norwegian
government will start the deportation (repatriation)
process once the Jaffna elections are over.
