KK-Forum,

her er noe om Israels etniske rensing, så og si hjemme i NATOs bakgård.

ADC Press Release:

Arab-Americans Appalled at Shooting of Palestinian MK by Israeli Troops
Palestinian Member of Israeli Parliament Shot During Home Demolition

Washington D.C., June 22 -- The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination
Committee (ADC) is appalled by the shooting yesterday of Azmi Bishara, a
prominent leader of the Palestinian community inside Israel and member
of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. Bishara, who ran unsuccessfully
for Prime Minister in the recent Israeli elections, was shot with
rubber-coated steel bullets along with a number of other demonstrators
as Israeli troops were demolishing the home of a Palestinian family in
the Israeli city of Lod. 15 other unarmed Palestinians were shot in the
same incident, including a physician who was shot in the face. Bishara
charged that the police were intentionally aiming to injure, since most
of the injured suffered upper body wounds.

The Israeli policy of demolishing the homes of Palestinians has been
increasing in recent years. Well over 200 homes were demolished last
year, leaving thousands of Palestinians homeless and without shelter.
The policy, in connection with other abusive practices such as land
confiscation, Jerusalem residency rights revocation, and the building of
Israeli settlements, is designed to make life unbearable for the
Palestinians who live under Israeli rule, especially in Occupied
Territories. Demolitions are often backed-up by heavily armed Israeli
troops using extreme violence, including killing protesters. In recent
years, demolitions have focused in and around Jerusalem, which Israel is
intent on permanently transforming into an Israeli city. Demolition of
Palestinian homes also occurs within the borders of Israel, as was the
case in this incident.

Azmi Bishara ran for Prime Minister to focus attention on the plight of
Israel's Palestinian citizens, who second-class citizenship under
Israeli law. Israel's system of land and housing rights dictates that
only Jewish Israelis may have access to state-owned land, which is over
90 percent of Israel. As a result, an apartheid-like system of land use
and housing discrimination is enforced against Palestinian citizens of
Israel. Palestinian Israelis are discriminated against at every level
and receive a tiny fraction of the social services and public spending
allotted to Jewish Israelis. Several right wing figures in Israel have
called for Bishara to be removed from the Knesset and banned from
politics because he calls for Israel to ensure equal rights for all and
that it be declared a nation dedicated to its citizens rather than to
the Jewish people of the entire world. ADC is shocked that not even
Palestinian members of the Knesset are immune to Israeli violence
against unarmed Palestinians, and demands an end to home demolitions,
discrimination against Arab citizens of Israel, and the occupation of
the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem.
